Preparing Yourself for When Your Children Travel Alone

When your child tells you they are going traveling, it can be both exciting and nerve-wracking as a parent. While your instinct may be to keep them close and ensure their safety, it’s important to encourage them to explore the world. Instead of letting your worries consume you, use them to help your child prepare and stay organized. This article provides some helpful tips for parents whose children are traveling.

Help them get organized before they go

The first thing you should do before they head off is to make sure they’re as organized as possible. This includes having their travel insurance sorted through a reputable company.

If your child has never traveled before, they might not be familiar with all the necessary things to have a smooth and enjoyable trip. As someone who has traveled before, you can provide valuable assistance by offering suggestions for items they should consider bringing.

Some of these items might include a comfortable travel pillow to help them sleep on long flights or car rides, a portable charger to keep their devices powered up while on the go, quality headphones to help block out unwanted noise and distractions, and packing cubes to help keep their clothing and other belongings organized and easy to find. By sharing your experience and knowledge, you can help ensure that their first travel experience is positive.

Plan times to speak to them regularly

Staying in touch with your child while they are traveling can be challenging, given their busy schedule and the possibility of being in different time zones. However, you can establish a routine of scheduling regular video or voice calls to overcome these communication barriers.

This way, you can both catch up on each other’s lives, share experiences and make sure that both of you are doing well. Keeping in touch with your child is important, especially when they are away from home, and regular communication can help you stay connected and support each other through any challenges that may arise.

Help them put together an itinerary and have them share it with you

Creating a rough itinerary can be an excellent way for you to stay informed about your child’s travels and feel more connected to them. Rather than constantly checking in on them, a rough itinerary allows you to keep track of their whereabouts and activities.

Additionally, creating an itinerary together with your child can be a fun and rewarding bonding experience that allows you to assist them in maximizing their trip experience. While the itinerary doesn’t have to be set in stone, a rough plan can be beneficial in ensuring that your child doesn’t miss out on any essential activities or experiences while traveling. Furthermore, it can be helpful in choosing accommodations that are close to the attractions they want to see.

    Final thoughts

Whether your child is in their late teens, twenties, or older, as a parent, you always want them to be safe, especially when traveling. Encouraging them to explore the world and gain new experiences is essential, but it’s also important to make sure they have the necessary life skills and tips to do so safely.

One way to help them is to discuss the potential risks and hazards associated with traveling and provide them with practical advice on how to avoid or handle these situations. In addition, make sure they have all the necessary documents, such as passports and visas, and that they are aware of local customs and laws.

Furthermore, it’s a good idea to stay in regular communication with them and ensure they have a reliable mode of communication in case of an emergency. With these measures in place, your child can enjoy their travels while also staying safe and secure.

What to Look for in a Travel Laptop Backpack

This laptop backpack post was created in partnership with Shieldon. I was not financially compensated for this post but did receive a sample for review purposes. As always, all opinions are entirely my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support me!

Choosing the correct travel computer backpack is an important part of preparing for your journey. Whether you are traveling for work or for play, choosing the right travel backpack can make your trip less stressful.

You may think that sounds overly dramatic but think about it. If you choose a backpack that is too big, you can easily have a pack that is too heavy to comfortably carry, or they could refuse to allow you to bring it onto the plane.

On the other hand, if you choose a backpack that is too small, you may not have enough room for your stuff! If you are planning a trip and trying to figure out what to look for in a travel laptop bag, look no further than this handy guide that I have created for you.

What to Look for in a Travel Laptop Backpack

There are many laptop backpacks out there to choose from, and it can be very overwhelming to figure out which one will work best for you. That’s why I am going to save you the time and the frustration of figuring it out and give you some tips on what to look for in a travel backpack so it’s an easier process.

    Good Quality, Weather Resistant Material

Be sure to choose a backpack that is made from good quality, weather-resistant material. You never know what will happen while you are traveling.

If you get caught in the rain, you don’t want all of your stuff to get soaked! Choose a good quality material that is at least water-resistant.

I recommend a backpack made out of a heavyweight polyester fabric like Oxford cloth, as it works well. It’s resistant to scratches and will protect your laptop from rain, snow, dirt, ect.

    Sufficient Compartments

Make sure that the backpack you choose has sufficient compartments for everything you need to carry.

We’ve been loving the spacious compartments of the SHIELDON Travel Laptop Backpack. It has two small front pockets, a large main compartment, a medium-sized compartment, and a padded laptop section that can fit a 17.3″ laptop.

One of the small front pockets also features two interior pockets along with a key clip while the laptop area also has a space for a tablet and boasts two other interior pockets. Plus, the main compartment has an interior pocket specifically meant for a power bank!

Then for even more organization and safety, it also has a back zipper pocket that doubles as a handy luggage strap as well as a mesh and a deep zippered pocket on each side.

    Sturdy, Lockable Zippers

No one wants to find that they have been the victim of theft.

That’s why you should always be sure that your travel backpack has thick lockable zippers that you can attach a TSA approved lock to prevent anyone from getting into your bag while you are busy checking in or when you accidentally leave your bag alone at any point during your trip.

    Charging Capabilities

In today’s tech age, having the ability to charge electronic devices on the go is a must.

The SHIELDON Laptop Backpack features a useful external USB charging port with a built-in charging cable. This way you can easily hook up your power bank and be able to charge your smartphone while traveling.

    Comfortable Straps

Be sure that the shoulder and waist straps are cushioned, comfortable, and adjustable to fit your body type well. Depending on your schedule, you may be spending a lot of time carrying this backpack. So, you need to make sure it’s comfortable!

Additionally, make sure the back of the backpack is padded. If you can constantly feel the items pressing against your back as you walk, it will get uncomfortable.

The SHIELDON Travel Backpack features a heavily padded back as well as its straps. Heck, even its top handle is cushioned!

    Large Front-Zip Compartment

What to Look for in a Travel Laptop Backpack

I once bought a great backpack that checked all of the needs off the list only to discover once it arrived that the large zipper opening wasn’t very large and it opened closer to the back compartment of the backpack. This was horrible because it significantly reduced how much stuff I could fit into it and it was awkward to reach in and out, especially with larger items like my laptop and shoes.

With the SHIELDON Laptop Backpack, the laptop compartment opens a full 180 degrees while the main compartment opens into a large space as well.

    Quality Stitching

As someone who has had a suitcase fall apart before, trust me when I say to pay close attention to the stitching. Low-quality stitching can easily come apart during rough travel or if it gets packed too tightly with your travel gear.

    Cheapest isn’t Always the Best

Okay, here’s the thing. I’m typically all about saving money, but this is one area that I don’t recommend skimping on. A good, quality backpack is necessary for all of the reasons listed above, and simply so you can feel secure knowing that your backpack isn’t going to rip or fall apart mid-trip.

Each and every one of the features mentioned above are well worth paying money for. For a good quality travel backpack, you can expect to pay in the $100-$200 range. However, if you are looking to try something a little cheaper the SHIELDON Travel Backpack is a great quality for only $52.99!

Yes, saving money is good, but I assure you, cheap is not what to look for in a laptop backpack. You will regret saving money if your pack falls apart, you will not regret paying for quality.

Good luck, my traveling friends! I hope that this helps you buy the perfect laptop backpack and gets you safely on your adventures.
